Mourning for Bernhard Wigger

Founder and longtime Director of the BEWITAL Group deceased

Suedlohn-Oeding. Bernhard Wigger is dead. The Founder and longtime Director of the BEWITAL Group died on 17th September at the age of 83 after long and severe illness. When the death notice arrived at the head office in Suedlohn-Oeding, the staff and all other involved parties were in deepest grief and sorrow. Bernhard Wigger was a much valued company leader and business partner.

The BEWITAL Group, consisting of five subsidiaries and 350 employees in total, was his lifework. In 1963, Bernhard Wigger laid the foundation for his company when he started the livestock trade. Later on, he decided to create his own feed for the upbringing of productive livestock. Shortly after, BEWITAL evolved to a specialized producer of nutrition for young animals.

Premium pet food with natural ingredients

In the mid 80’s, Bernhard Wigger decided to expand the product range by pet nutrition for cats and dogs. From the very beginning, he put emphasis on the usage of natural ingredients for his formulations. The extraordinary quality of BEWITAL products from Suedlohn-Oeding was soon on everybody’s lips: Today, the company markets its premium pet food brands BELCANDO, LEONARDO and BEWI DOG in more than 50 countries worldwide, feeding more than half a million dogs and cats every day.

In the year 2000, Bernhard Wigger gave off the company leadership step by step to his children Dr. Jürgen Wigger and Ulrike Petershagen, as well as to his son-in-law Jürgen Petershagen. The company hasn’t lost its charme as a traditional family-held firm ever since.
