Groundbreaking for million investment

·  BEWITAL petfood adding another 2,000 square meters

· After 2015, continued large investments in production site

Südlohn, 29.09.2017 – At BEWITAL petfood, all the signs are set for growth. Hence the manufacturer of premium pet food expands its production facilities at the Daimlerstraße in Oeding. The official groundbreaking ceremony was held together with representatives of the community and cooperating companies.

"We appreciate the BEWITAL business group and are very happy about the loyalty to location in their expansion course", says mayor Christian Vedder, adding "the company is family-run, medium-sized and offering good as well as sustainable jobs. If companies like BEWITAL continue to invest in the location, it is not only a great statement for Südlohn, but also for the whole region."

Large investments in the region already in 2015

After BEWITAL already invested about 14 million Euro back in 2015, the company is now investing another 5 million Euro in the extension of their production site in Oeding, since the new facility at the Daimlerstraße is already bursting at the seams: "Initially we planned to have engaged seven production employees after two years. By the end of August, we had already engaged 31 employees", explains Dr. Jürgen Wigger, owner of BEWITAL petfood. According to their forecast, BEWITAL expects continued growth in the pet food segment for the future. In a recent election by the German specialist trade, the company has been honored with an award for the best product novelty 2016/2017 in the cat food segment.

More space for more variety

On an area of about 5,000 square meters in total, the company is now making room for the storage of an even larger range of extraordinary raw ingredients: "The demands of pet owners continue to increase. "With our ongoing expansion course, we consider ourselves well-prepared for future developments", says Dr. Jürgen Wigger. "In the meantime, formerly exotic ingredients like kangaroo meat as well as zucchini, sweet potato or cranberries have become common raw ingredients." Earlier this year, BEWITAL also received an authorization for the production of organic pet food: "Raw ingredients of organic qualities must be stored and processed separately from conventional raw ingredients, which is also a reason for the increased space requirements." It is also planned to acquire further modern packaging machines for stand-up pouches in order to extend the production in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way. "Compared to traditional tins, stand-up pouches cause significantly less waste", explains Dr. Jürgen Wigger. "As one among few producers, we are proud to be able to offer wet food of full-meat quality in portion-packed stand-up pouches."
